In the Qianjiang Streets, the trumpet flowers bloom thick and heavy, and countless households live along the water, most making their living through trade and commerce. Whenever cargo boats return, buyers throng the shore so densely that the boats can scarcely move, and so, by common accord, a market formed here—known as the Flower Boat Market. This place opens for business at dawn and disperses at dusk, selling mostly daily necessities and handcrafted goods. Merchants deck their boats with seasonal flowers to draw in customers, each vying to outshine the other in splendor. Amid the clamor of voices and the press of boat against boat, it seems almost a bridge of flowers rising from the water.
