Travelogue: Fairgrounds

by Wayfarer

They say the liveliest, most vibrant spot in Kaifeng is the Fairgrounds—and it lives up to the hype. The streets brim with dough figurine stalls, night food stands, candied fruit vendors, lantern shops, puppetry... countless delights to explore. When night falls, "Fiery trees and silver blooms illuminate the night, as golden locks open wide upon the starry bridge."—what a breathtaking view! An old woman by the road says it had a name in the former dynasty: "Bridge Bazaar". But now the name's forgotten; everyone calls it "the Bazaar". No matter—it's a charming name too.
