Li Bai (Tang Dynasty)
On Phoenix Terrace, phoenixes once made their flight;
The birds have gone, the terrace stands bare, the river flows in the light.
Wu's palace flowers are buried beneath overgrown ways;
Jin's noble robes and caps are turned to mounds of old days.
Three peaks half-fade beyond the azure skies so wide;
Two streams cut through where the Egret Shoals divide.
Floating clouds forever veil the glorious sun;
Chang'an is lost from sight, leaving my grief begun.
