Leaving Lone Hill, one arrives at the Bai Causeway, where the path opens wide, the blossoms grow deep, and the moon shines bright. In the Tang era, the Wanghu Pavilion was built here, where one gazed upon a boundless lake glowing in autumn's single hue—hence its name, Autumn Moon on the Calm Lake. It is said that the world hears thunder where there is no sound, and beholds the autumn moon by a level lake. Should one's heart, upon reaching this place, grow calm as the still lake, then the bright moon dwells within oneself; and should one remain unmoved by praise or scorn, then every place becomes a level lake. Splendid scenes do not last, yet the level lake remains eternal—and this autumn moon may yet light the way for travelers to the ends of the earth.
