Two or three floors into the repairs on the South City Pagoda, the structure would not stop swaying. The builders tried everything in vain, and so they sought the renowned architect Yu Hao. He at once recognized the cause: the pagoda was too light at the top. He had the builders lay planks on each floor, secure them with wooden pegs, and cover them with tiles to add more weight.
They did as he said, and the pagoda stood firm.
