Arrows Against the Tide

Told by Qin Shu, Qi Hao

The Qiantang River tides were once devastating. Legend says King Wusu commanded ten thousand archers to drive back the surging tide with volleys of heavy arrows, thus allowing the sea embankments to be built. Later generations erected the Five Dragons Temple on the riverbank to calm the waters. To this day, Hangzhou children still grow up on the tale of how King Qian tamed the river.
