An old man is sometimes seen along the rivers of Qingzhou, steering his raft across the currents and sweeping aside churning waves with his pole. The world knows him only as the Old Raftsman, for his true name, Huang Zhishui, has long since vanished beneath the river's depths.

Some say his martial arts are drawn from the tides themselves: his feints are fleeting illusions that deceive the eye, while his true strikes carry the crushing force of a hidden undertow. Others say whenever he meets a young martial artist by the water, he taps his pole upon the ground to impart the truth of "Breakthrough."

Yet those who seek his past find only dense river mist, phantom rafts skimming across the water, and the wind of a swirling pole parting the clouds, leaving truth and illusion hopelessly blurred.
