Everyone knows that immortals are good, yet no one can forget gold and silver. All day long they lament how little they have amassed; when at last they have plenty, their eyes have closed for good. One week from now, Wanderers will board the Golden Ship and arrive at "Weiyang City," a place where gold springs from the very ground. In most people's eyes, the Golden Ship means endless riches and a life of immortals where every wish is granted. Little wonder countless people dream of it day and night, each longing to take the voyage. But the gifts fate hands out often come with a price tag hidden somewhere. Even if gold really does spring from the ground, where does that "gold" come from, whose hands does it end up in, and what must be paid to obtain it? These questions are a matter of life and death. With departure near, we will also reveal to Wanderers a few of the city's unique ways of "getting rich."

Everything Has a Price:

Your Business Has Been Sold!

Some Wanderers may ask: "I carry plenty of Tongbao and I'm never short of Meyu. Is that enough to keep me rich for life in Weiyang City?" Wanderers, that is mistaken. What truly keeps a person wealthy has never been the money hoarded on them, but the means of earning it. Only when the wellspring never runs dry can wealth last. To make money in Weiyang City, it all comes down to "trading what you have for what you need." What you have is more than you imagine. Everything a Wanderer learns while exploring may be bought by someone who needs it, and converted into the city's hard currency, [Five-Pearl Shells]. The locations of boundary markers can be sold, recipes from every region can be sold, and the street rumors you overhear and the likes and dislikes of distinguished guests you learn about can all be sold! When you are truly desperate and have nothing left to sell, making something up isn't out of the question either. Here, anyone could be your "client." The "Treasure-Bearing Mystic Rats" yearn to grow their businesses bigger and stronger, and what they need most are leads on business opportunities. The managers of the Nine Pawnshops have eyes everywhere and are willing to pay handsomely for useful tidbits from the corners of the city. The city's many denizens are likewise glad to pay high prices for secrets that touch on their interests. Each faction has different needs, so the same piece of information naturally fetches a different price from each. Deciding whom to sell information to is truly an art. It will affect not only how many [Five-Pearl Shells] a Wanderer can earn, but also directly influence how certain stories unfold. Wanderers can even choose to [Destroy] certain clues, deciding what shape the story ultimately takes.

Wanderers can likewise use [Five-Pearl Shells] to purchase leads or items they want, or post bounties for them. It seems that in Weiyang City, even among distinguished guests, there are differences!

Reading the Winds and Qi:

Seeing the "Essence" Through Appearances

In Chinese fengshui and physiognomy, there is a practice called "qi gazing" (望气), which judges fortune and misfortune by observing the "qi field." It helps you pass through illusory fog and see the entangled desires that bind all things together. Wherever desire points, risk and opportunity lie hidden. A chest that seems perfectly ordinary may be revealed by [Wind Divination: Qi Gazing] to be a rare treasure. But until the lid is opened, no one can say whether it holds a windfall or a deadly trap.

Practitioners seek to purify the six roots, but Weiyang City is exactly the opposite. [Wind and Qi Divination] can read even objects this way, so when it is used to read people, every fine detail is laid bare. When it is cast, the desires of the people in the city are displayed more blatantly and plainly. For example, some will fall into a frenzied ecstasy and spill their wealth and intel without reservation, while others will be filled with rage and hurt others and themselves without control.
